Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) has highly appreciated the efforts of member of European parliament (MEP) Mr Wajid Khan for effectively raising Kashmir issue in Europe.
In a statement issued from Brussels, European Union Headquarters, Mr Ali Raza Syed said, the successful campaign for arranging a historic hearing on human right violations of the Kashmiris (to be held) on 23rd January 2019 at the EU parliament is a great contribution towards rights of the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.
People of Kashmir are truly grateful to MEP Mr Wajid Khan for his sincere efforts on the issue of Kashmir, said Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed.
He added, the upcoming hearing on the human rights violations in Kashmir at EU’s parliament human rights committee would be an international recognition of rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is important to mention that MEP Wajid Khan was the co-host of Kashmir EU week arranged by Kashmir Council EU at EU parliament Brussels and host of an exhibition of photographs on Kashmir at European parliament seat in Strasbourg early this month.
Initially, in a meeting with chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) Mr Pier Antonio Panzeri, the Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan raised the issue of human rights violations in IHK on a proposal of Kashmir Council EU on October 12, 2017. Later on, AJK’s PM, who was chief guest of Kashmir EU Week arranged by Kashmir Council EU at EU parliament sent a letter to the chair of the subcommittee requesting him for a debate on human rights violations in IHK. The Prime Minister dispatched another letter addressing Chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee dated April 14, 2018 once again drew his attention towards human rights violation in IHK.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU also appreciated the efforts of other individuals and organizations on Kashmir issue in Europe, especially MEP Dr Sajjad Karim and former MEP Afzal Khan as saying KC-EU is sincerely grateful to the individuals and organizations on the behalf of oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Ali Raza Syed emphasized, the hearing on human rights of the Kashmiris at EU parliament would held at the time, when a large scale human rights violations are being committed by the Indian occupation forces in the Indian held Kashmir (IHK) for last seven decades. The human rights activists from abroad are prevented to travel to IHK. Kashmiri Human rights activists in Indian Held Kashmir are struggling to protect the rights of the oppressed people of IHK for a long time.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU said, approval of hearing on human rights of the Kashmir is a kind of acceptance of rights of the people of Kashmir including women and children, who are struggling for their rights and want freedom from Indian occupation.
Condemning the violation of human rights of the people of Kashmir, Mr Ali Raza Syed underlined, crimes against humanity including harassment of women and children has no place in the civilised world.
He expressed a hope that the hearing on Kashmir at EU parliament will give more awareness about Kashmir issue at the international level and will give more voice and courage to the voiceless people of Kashmir.
Mr Ali Raza Syed added, nobody can deny the facts about ground situation in Indian Held Kashmir as IHK is witnessed a large scale human rights violations by Indian authorities.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU urged the international community to stop human rights violations in IHK. The world community specially United Nation and EU should come forward and take step for a peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue.
